6 Après-Ski Skin Care Tips & Tricks

Tis the season for schussing down the slopes. But, whether you’re an avid skier, snowboarder, or you prefer to get your snowy sport on sled-style, most will agree that one of the best parts of a day spent slope-side is the après-ski portion of the trip. Want to look your best for your après-ski activities? We share a few simple beauty tips and tricks below to help you glow!

Layer Your Sunscreen

Want to avoid that dreaded sunburn after a day out on the mountain? You’ll want to layer on the broad-spectrum SPF before heading out for the day. Plus, you’ll also want to make sure you’re reapplying during your runs. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, because of the high altitudes on the slopes plus the reflection of the UV rays by the snow, skiers and snowboarders have an increased risk of sun damage. Protect yourself by reaching for a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or more.

Soak Up & Scrub Down

After you’ve finished up for the day turn your bathroom into a mini spa—unless, that is, you have post-ski spa plans! Draw a warm bath and fill it with a hydrating and aromatic foaming bath—like Kiehl’s Lavender Foaming-Relaxing Bath. Formulated with sea salts and aloe vera, this lavender-scented bubble bath is the ultimate treat for your skin after an active day.

While you’re soaking, slough away any dead skin surface cell buildup by reaching for an equally aromatic scrub. Kiehl’s Gentle Exfoliating Body Scrub in the lavender scent is the perfect addition to your next bath. This microbead-free scrub gently exfoliates the surface of the skin without over-drying.

Wear a Mask

During your soak you’ll want to make sure you also cleanse your skin—we recommend using micellar water to avoid the need to rinse! Next, slather on a hydrating facial mask like SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque. This calming mask cools on contact and helps to comfort skin after a day of outdoor activity thanks to a formula infused with cucumber, thyme, and olive extracts, hyaluronic acid, and dipeptide. Apply a generous amount and rinse off if desired—we love this mask because you can leave it on, rinse it off, or use it as an overnight treatment!

Hydrate from Head to Toe

After your stress-free bath, hop out, pat dry and get hydrate your skin from head to toe. According to our Skincare.com consulting dermatologists, the best time to moisturize your skin is when it’s still slightly damp. Since the cold, snowy weather often causes skin to feel dry and dehydrated, reach for a rich and creamy body cream like The Body Shop’s Shea Body Butter. Not only does this body butter hydrate your skin, helping it to feel silky smooth, it also smells delicious!

Embrace Your Rosy Glow

While a post-ski sesh sunburn is not welcome on our complexions, that healthy-looking rosy glow that we get after spending time out in the snow is! Instead of hiding that fresh-faced look with a layer of foundation we like to embrace it by turning to moisturizers like L’Oréal Paris’ Age Perfect Cell Renewal Rosy Tone Moisturizer. This cream—formulated with micro-exfoliating LHA and imperial peony—helps to renew and revive a healthy-looking tone for visibly younger-looking skin. If you still feel like you need a little makeup, try a light layer of BB cream, a creamy concealer, and a coat of your favorite mascara.

Pucker Up

Finally, complete your après-ski look by caring for your kisser. After a day on the slopes our lips can feel parched and dry, re-hydrate them with an emollient lip care product like Maybelline Baby Lips Color Balm Crayon. Available in 8 flattering shades that will look amazing with that chunky sweater you packed, these color balm crayons hydrate your lips and give them a gorgeous wash of color.
