How Beauty Editors Do Sunday Night Skin Care

JACKIE, EDITOR IN CHIEF:

Typically, I'm makeup-free by the time Sunday night rolls around so I'll usually start by washing my face with an exfoliating face wash; I like to use that time to remove any buildup of dead skin cells and grime from the week and give myself a clean canvas for the week ahead. Next, I almost always use a face mask and typically a few of them—thanks to the multitasking trend—since I have combination skin (I’m dry around the cheeks but a little oily on the T-Zone during the summer). I'll use a detoxifying clay mask for the oily areas and then a super hydrating mask for the dryness, chill for 10 minutes or so—read: internet shop—and then rinse. I've gotten really used to using toners so that's always up next followed by my favorite new sleeping mask from Lancôme, Energie de Vie Melt-In Sleeping Mask, which I received compliments of a recent event hosted by the brand. It is equal parts moisturizing as it is energizing for my often dull-looking complexion. I always wake up looking a little more refreshed than on the nights I don't use it. Finally, I have gnarly dark circles, so I use eye cream religiously to help tone those suckers down.

JESSIE, JUNIOR EDITOR:

It’s hard to fall victim to the Sunday sads when you have a spa night to look forward to, which is why I always pamper myself on Sunday nights with some of the complimentary products we get sent to try and review at Skincare.com! These days, I start by giving my skin a double cleanse using The Body Shop’s Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil and Decléor’s Brightening Cleansing Foam. Once my skin is cleansed, I apply a detoxifying mud mask to my skin. My mask of choice tends to change often since I am somewhat of a maskaholic, but right now I am all about L’Oréal Paris’ Detox and Brighten Treatment Mask from the brand’s new line of Pure-Clay masks. Once I’m masked up, I pour myself a glass of lemon with water and draw a nice, warm detox bath filled with Epsom salts, essential oil, and a few tablespoons of coconut oil to give my skin some extra hydration. This is one of my favorite ways to wind down and relax after the weekend. It benefits my skin and clears my head.

JESSICA, JUNIOR EDITOR:

Weeknights are usually jam-packed for me, so I’ve got my evening skin care routine down to a thorough science—a 7-minute science, if we’re being exact. On Sundays, though, I allot myself an entire nights-worth of time to indulge in anything from sheet masks to exfoliating scrubs. My routine varies, but it almost always starts out with a micellar water cleanser to remove any dirt, makeup, and impurities off the surface of my skin, followed by a quick sweep of toner. Since the Skincare.com team receives free products for review, it’s always fun to take a few home to try, especially during my Sunday night skin care routine. Right now, I’m loving Lancôme Eau Fraîche Douceur and Vichy Pureté Thermale Toner. Then I’ll apply Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, which boasts powerful exfoliating properties to help accelerate surface cell turnover and reveal smoother, more radiant skin. Next, I’ll apply a sheet mask I couldn’t squeeze in during the week to help quench my skin with much-needed hydration and to add a brightened glow. Benefits aside, these masks feel really relaxing and spa-like, so I’ll always use them. As a last step, I apply nighttime moisturizer to my face and coat my pout with lip balm.

NOELLE, SOCIAL MEDIA EDITOR:

On Sunday I take care of all my errands for the week, which means I’m even more exposed to smog and city pollution than usual. That, coupled with the fact that it’s near impossible not to sweat in an unbearably hot subway station, means that my skin is left feeling pretty grimy by the time I get home. Thankfully, the Skincare.com team always has complimentary products lying around that we get to take home to try and review and I found a few favorites in the process! For a quick clean-up, I wipe Garnier Clean+ Purifying Oil-Free Cleansing Towelettes across my face and follow up with a rinse of cold water for an extra burst of freshness. Right before bed, I use Kiehl's Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Mask to help replenish my skin with moisture and defend it against impurities and environmental aggressors over the following week.
