How to Care for Your Skin From Your Couch

We’ve all had one of “those” days. And by that we mean a day of countless engagements and deadlines, a day where our to-do list seems never-ending, a day where we wish we had (at minimum) five more hours of sleep. In other words, once you plop down on that comfy couch in your living room, all chances of getting up off it are shot to hell. We get it, we’ve been there too.

Here’s the thing though. Wallowing in your tired or lazy state atop plush cushions with a remote in hand may make you feel good in the moment, but it does little to help the crisis brewing on your complexion from a combination of too-few hours of sleep and stress. The good news is that with a few strategically placed products and a knack for multi-tasking, you could binge-watch your favorite TV shows—complain about your mean coworker, online shop, browse social media…the sky’s the limit—AND pamper your skin at the same time…all without getting up and heading to a sink. How’s that for a lazy-girl approved skin routine? Ahead, we share helpful tips on how to care for your skin from your couch. Whether you’re looking to de-stress or simply want to give your skin a little extra TLC without a lot of effort, you’ll definitely want to read this!

CLEANSE WITH MICELLAR WATER

Laying comfortably on your couch, you may be internally debating whether or not you should get up, head to the sink and remove your makeup. If you’re tired, you may feel more inclined to skip this step altogether. That’s certainly not something we would ever recommend, since sleeping in your makeup can lead to a host of unwanted problems. What we do suggest is storing a no-rinse cleanser—hint hint, micellar water—and clean cotton pads on a side table for quick and virtually effortless cleansing while lounging on your couch. All you have to do is soak a cotton pad with micellar water—try L’Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water—and sweep it over your facial zones to help gently remove all traces of makeup, dirt, and impurities. Cleansing wipes work nicely too, if that’s more your thing. Easy, peasy.

HYDRATE YOUR SKIN

After cleansing, moisturizing is the name of the game. You could pretty much hydrate your skin anywhere so long as you have product handy. Look for ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid, two hydration powerhouses. In addition to facial moisturizer, store hand cream and lip balm within arm’s reach to give your paws and pout (respectively) a little love during commercial breaks.

APPLY A SHEET MASK

Masking lends itself to multi-tasking. What else are you supposed to do while donning one? Stare at the ceiling? Since it could be a little more difficult to apply a clay-based mask while hanging out on your couch sans mirror, ditch the potential mess and reach for a sheet mask instead. Not only are they effective, but they’re so easy to use! Seriously, you can probably apply a sheet mask with your eyes closed. For an extra boost of hydration, we recommend Garnier Moisture Bomb The Super Hydrating Mask – Hydrating. The water-based formula with hyaluronic acid provides deep moisture for instantly softer, more radiant skin. It’s also brand spankin’ new!

Tip: If you live with roommates or a S.O., give them a heads up before applying a sheet mask. We can only imagine their reaction to seeing what looks like a horror movie prop sitting on their couch after arriving home. Sheer fright is our guess.
