New Year’s Resolutions: 10 Skin Care Habits To Try in 2017

New Year, new skin care routine! If your skin hasn't been looking its best, it's time to switch things up for 2017. This year, we are making skin care-inspired resolutions to help us ensure that our complexions look their best all year long. From daily sunscreen application to multi-masking to keeping our skin hydrated, we share 10 skin care habits you should definitely adopt this year, ahead.

1. WEAR SPF EVERY DAY

In 2017, make it a habit to apply sunscreen to your complexion every morning before your makeup application (and while you’re at it… reapply throughout the day, too). The sun is always—we repeat: ALWAYS—shining down on us and wreaking havoc on our exposed skin...even when it’s dark and cloudy out. Protecting your precious skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays can reduce your risk of skin cancer, protect your skin from premature signs of aging—think: fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots—and helps prevent uncomfortable sunburns from occurring.

Feeling a bit lost in the sunscreen department? We share a roundup of the best SPF-packed sunscreens for your skin type, here.

2. SEE YOUR DERMATOLOGIST FOR AN ANNUAL CHECK UP

Has it been awhile since you last saw your dermatologist? In 2017, make it a habit to schedule an annual check up with your dermatologist in the beginning of the year, that way you get it done and out of the way... and you won’t have to worry about it for the rest of the year. Not sure what to expect from a full-body skin check? We share answers to all the FAQs here!

3. GIVE MULTI-MASKING A TRY

Customize your skin care routine with a weekly (or bi-weekly) multi-masking recipe that can target your skin’s specific concerns. Choose a collection of masks from different brands or stick to one line of masks, such as L’Oréal Paris’ Pure-Clay Masks. These drugstore facial masks are each formulated to target a specific skin care concern and each can be used on their own or in a unique multi-masking recipe. 4. SWITCH TO SKIN CARE-INSPIRED MAKEUP

In 2016 we saw many a new makeup launches that were inspired by skin care. In 2017, make the switch to some of these skin-benefiting cosmetics. From primers to BB creams to lipsticks to even liquid eyeliners and eyebrow enhancers, there are so many different skin care-inspired makeup options for you to choose from. To help you get started, here’s our guide to face makeup with skin care benefits.

5. USE COCONUT OIL IN YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

If you have yet to jump on the coconut oil bandwagon, what are you waiting for? With so many different uses— read: hacks— to try, this multitasking skin care oil can be a great addition to your 2017 beauty arsenal. From oil cleansing to cuticle cream to removing stubborn lip stains, the possibilities are endless!

6. FIND YOUR INNER ZEN

The holidays can be stressful...in 2017, get your stressed out skin back on track with the use of calming skin care products and maybe a little yoga sesh, too! We share an aromatherapy skin care routine from Decléor, plus a quick morning yoga sequence to help you find some peace of mind, here.

7. MOISTURIZE REGULARLY

If frequent moisturization is at the bottom of your current priority list, bump it to the top in 2017. Moisture is arguably one of the most important steps in any good skin care routine (right up there with cleansing and daily SPF application), as it can work to hydrate, comfort, soothe, and promote a healthy, youthful-looking glow. If you already moisturize after you get out of the shower and/or wash your face…great! Now, up the ante and reapply moisture throughout the day and before you hit the hay at night.

8. WASH YOUR FACE BEFORE BED… AND FIRST THING WHEN YOU WAKE UP

Cleansing your complexion before bed is a no-brainer…especially if you’ve been rocking a full face of makeup all day. But, many of us are guilty of skipping out on cleanser in the morning, too. Like brushing your teeth, make it a habit to wash your face first thing when you wake up. This can help remove any dirt, impurities, and sweat from the surface of your skin and leave you with a fresh, clean canvas for your daily makeup application.

9. TREAT YOUR BODY TO WEEKLY EXFOLIATION

You may already be exfoliating your complexion on a weekly basis, but is the skin on your body getting the same kind of care and attention? In 2017, make it a habit to dry brush your body at least once a week. This can help remove dry, dead skin cell build up from the surface of your skin and allow your body moisturizers to work efficiently, too.

10. DRINK MORE WATER

Falling behind on your daily water intake? In the new year, make it a habit to drink the recommended amount of water throughout the day. Doing so can help replenish both the body and the skin. If regular, plain water won’t cut it, give one of our fruit water recipes a try.
