How to Hydrate Your Skin During the Winter Months

TIP #1: DON’T SKIP THE MOISTURIZER

This winter make sure you’re keeping your skin hydrated by applying moisturizer after getting out of the shower, cleansing your complexion, and throughout the day as needed. Not sure what moisturizer is right for you and your skin type? We share a roundup of our favorite winter weather moisturizers for every skin type, here.

TIP #2: NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT AN ON-THE-GO HYDRATOR

Experiencing a bout of seasonal dry skin? This winter, keep a compact, travel-sized moisturizer—such as this one from NYX Professional Makeup’s All Over Balm—close and use it to hydrate parched lips and moisturize patches of dehydrated skin.

TIP #3: DON’T NEGLECT YOUR HANDS & FEET

Just because your hands and feet are hibernating in wool socks and mittens all winter, doesn’t mean they don’t need special care and attention. This winter, give your hands and feet a weekly deep condition with coconut oil. To do so, massage warm coconut oil into the skin on your hands and feet (paying close attention to the extra dry, uncomfortable areas) and wrap them in plastic wrap. Put on your favorite pair of winter socks and mittens and allow the coconut oil to work.

TIP #4: FACIAL SPRAY CAN MAKE FOR A GREAT MIDDAY SKIN CARE PICK-ME-UP

In need of a hydrating, midday skin care pick-me-up? Reach for your favorite skin replenishing facial spray or make your own. Often formulated with skin-replenishing ingredients such as glycerin, aloe vera leaf juice, and rosewater, facial mists can give your skin a boost of hydration and leave you feeling refreshed and replenished.

TIP #5: INVEST IN A HUMIDIFIER

With the dry, cold weather and artificial heat on blast, your skin may feel extra dry during the winter. Combat the winter climate with a humidifier. According to board-certified dermatologist and Skincare.com consultant, Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali, “humidifiers add moisture back into the environment [and can help] your skin retain hydration much better than it otherwise would.”
