#SkinCrush: Why We Can’t Stop Scrolling Through the @skincarealchemist’s Instagram Feed
August 19, 2019#SkinCrush digs into the routines of people who love skin (almost) as much as we do.
Skin-care Instagrams are chock-full of pretty shelfies, but not all of them are as informative as we’d like them to be. That’s why Marina Korotun of @skincarealchemist stands out in the skin-care influencer community with her colorful photos and in-depth product reviews. Ahead, Korotun shares her current regimen, the number-one product she’d buy again in a heartbeat and the skin-care ingredient she’s most excited about.
Name: Marina Korotun
What you do: Social media consultant/skin-care blogger
Skin Type: Combination/sensitive
We’re obsessed with your skin-care Instagram account. What inspired you to start it?
After getting diagnosed with rosacea, I struggled to keep it in check, which lead me to research skin-care ingredients in an effort to understand my skin condition better. I created @Skincarealchemist to share my experience and skin-care knowledge with others. I’ve also longed for a creative outlet, so this fits the bill.
Tell us about your current skin-care routine.
My skin-care routine is never static, as I try new products all the time. Some of my current staples are: Farmacy Green Clean Balm, Kiehl’s Calendula Cleanser, Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Toner, Fresh Vitamin Nectar Serum, First Aid Beauty BarriAIR Cream, Fresh Black Tea Eye Serum, and Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen. At night, I alternate between The Ordinary Azelaic Acid, First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads and Algenist Liquid Collagen.
What’s the last skin-care product you finished? Would you buy it again?
FAB BarriAIR cream, for sure. I would absolutely repurchase; it’s a perfect lightweight hydrating cream.
What’s one thing you wished you learned sooner, in regards to skin care?
To use SPF every day. I used to think SPF in my makeup was enough to protect me.

What’s your skin-care guilty pleasure?
Doing my own pore extractions. I know I’m supposed to leave it to the professionals, but I just can’t stand seeing a clogged pore.
What’s the skin-care ingredient you can’t get enough of?
Azelaic acid. I’ve found it to be the most effective ingredient for treating my papulopustular rosacea. Azelaic acid also helps clear acne and combat hyperpigmentation.
What’s the most-asked question in your DMs?
“What would you recommend to treat rosacea?” I now have a story highlight on my Instagram dedicated to this topic.
What’s your favorite thing about skin care?
That it keeps my skin healthy. Skin is our largest organ and we need to take good care of it.
Where can we find you on the internet?
On Instagram you can find me @skincarealchemist!
