SkinCrush: Meet The Glossarray’s Mai Morgan and Daxia Godoy and Steal Their Skin-Care Secrets
April 26, 2019Name: Daxia Godoy
What you do: I’m a full-time college student in NYC and when I’m not doing school work, I’m working on THE GLOSSARRAY.
Skin Type: I have combination skin most of the time, but it changes with the seasons. Oily during the summer and combination/dehydrated in the winter.
What made you two start THE GLOSSARRAY?
I had been doing a bit of my own beauty blogging on my personal Instagram account, and I’d noticed that Mai had started her own beauty account. We weren’t close at that point, but I could see that she had a passion for creating just like me. I reached out to Mai over Instagram DM and asked her on a whim if she’d want to start a blog together. I felt that we could create something stronger if we did it together because we both have that passion and drive for beauty and content creation.

Right now, in the mornings I’ll wash my face with the Bioderma Sensibio Gel Moussant, which I think of as my “safe” cleanser that I can always fall back on because I know it works great for me. Then I’ll use the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, which I’m just introducing to my skin, so I’ll use it every other day until my skin adjusts to using it. I follow it up with the Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum, which I love because it also contains hyaluronic acid. And lastly, I’ll use a moisturizer with SPF like the Erno Laszlo Firmarine Moisturizer SPF 30.
At night I’ll use the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water as a first cleanse and the Gel Moussant second to make sure I get everything off from the day. If it’s my off day from using Lotion P50, I’ll use the Bioderma Hydrabio Tonique followed up by the Peach & Lily Glass Skin Serum and the Embryolisse Hydra-Masque as a moisturizer. I’m currently looking for a good nighttime moisturizer!
What’s one thing you wished you learned sooner in regards to skin care?
I wish my younger self knew not to panic and throw on every product that’s anti-acne when I’m breaking out. It’s so easy for this to happen, especially if you’re not seeing results.
Your favorite accounts to follow on the ’gram?
I love everything that @christina.kassi creates. I’m a big fan of hers and she’s also so sweet. And @35mmbeauty takes the most amazing photos! I can’t get enough of them.
What’s the last skin-care product you finished and would you buy it again?
I believe the last product I finished was the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask, which worked so well for my congested skin. I’ve been traveling pretty often, which makes my skin congested. I would repurchase it, however the price is a little steep for me. If I were to splurge, that would definitely be a product I’d get.
The skin-care ingredient you can’t get enough of?
Vitamin C! It’s worked wonders to fade and brighten years of acne scars.
What’s the most-asked question in your DMs?
We get a lot of product-related questions asking about recommendations for different skin concerns. And also questions about where to buy the props or storage items in our posts.
Your favorite thing about skin care?
There is so much to learn about skin care! I really enjoy spending time reading up on different ingredients. I’m trying to learn more about ingredients so that I can find products that will work for me and easily say no to products that have ingredients my skin doesn’t like. I think it’s important for anyone who is trying to create a skin-care routine to learn the basics about the ingredients in products and what they do.
Name: Mai Morgan
What you do: I’m a full-time student like Dax and I work on THE GLOSSARRAY in my free time.
Skin Type: Normal/dry and sensitive.
When Dax reached out to you on Instagram about starting THE GLOSSARRAY, what did you think?
I’d started my own account on Instagram about six months before she approached me and asked if I’d like to collab on a project of our own. I’d known of her but had never spoken to her before. I could tell that she had a knack for photography and creating in general. It was a no-brainer for me! She’s taught me so much. I’m really grateful for her and I love the dynamic that both of us bring to the table.
Tell us about your current skin-care routine.
I’ve learned recently that my skin reacts best to a minimalist routine, so I try to stick with that a majority of the time. In the mornings, I like to wake up by using some sort of gentle foaming cleanser, like the Erno Laszlo Hydra-Therapy Foaming Cleanse, or by using a micellar water (my favorite of all time is the Bioderma Sensibio one). I normally keep it simple for my AM routine, so I’ll just use a hyaluronic acid serum and then I’ll moisturize with something light. I’ll make sure to follow that up with an SPF if my moisturizer doesn’t already contain it. I really enjoy Supergoop’s SPF products. The weather here in New Orleans is so incredibly back and forth, so it’s hard to stay on top of my skin. My skin tends to be drier, however, so moisture is always a go-to for me.
In the evenings, I’ll go more in-depth. I’ll use the same two cleansers from my morning routine, and then if I’m masking that night, I normally go for an exfoliating wash-off peel or mask, like the Sand + Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask or the Erno Laszlo White Marble Dual Phase Vitamin C Peel. If I’m not masking, then I’ll use the Caudalie Vinoperfect Glycolic Brightening Essence, apply a niacinamide serum and follow that up with the Farmacy Beauty Honeymoon Glow (one of my favorites of all time) and then moisturize. I really love the Youth To The People Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream.
What’s one thing you wished you learned sooner in regards to skin care?
To not over-exfoliate your skin! I grew up with dry/dehydrated skin and it used to really frustrate me, so my first thought was to exfoliate as much as possible, which was definitely the wrong answer, especially for someone with extremely sensitive skin like me. Also, I wish I would have known to pay attention to the ingredients in products. It would have been beneficial for me to know exactly what my skin was so sensitive to, so that I could have been avoiding those things.
Your favorite accounts to follow on the ‘gram?
I adore @christina.kassi, as well as @amyserrano and @thecriticalbabe!
What’s the last skin-care product you finished and would you buy it again?
Mine was actually Farmacy Beauty Honeymoon Glow and I absolutely will be repurchasing! That product is a gamechanger for my skin.
The skin-care ingredient you can’t get enough of?
Niacinamide! My skin loves it and it definitely helps with redness and inflammation.
What’s the most-asked question in your DMs?
People always want to know where we get certain things that we use in our pictures, such as organizational items or even jewelry pieces that we wear!
Your favorite thing about skin care?
I love the self-care aspect of it the most. I think it’s so important to pamper and give back to yourself. It’s also fun learning what your skin likes and dislikes. It makes me feel like an at-home scientist.
