What's in My Bag: 5 Skin Care Necessities for Your Next Vacation
May 12, 2016Before embarking on a trip, I’m always tempted to unload my entire vanity into my suitcase, but the fear of being the laughingstock of the trip holds me back (if not the fact that it would take many, many suitcases to do so). Let’s face it: Who really wants to travel with the girl carrying pounds and pounds of beauty products? But you don’t have to compromise your skin—or your look, for that matter—just because you’re cruising at 30,000 feet. Stick with the essentials of your routine, pop it all into a (TSA-approved) carry-on bag and be on your way. Sure, it’s easier said than done. Luckily, our friends at Kiehl’s, Clarisonic, and Vichy sent some travel-friendly products over for the Skincare.com team to try and, let’s just say, we’re pretty much ready for takeoff.
CLEANSING BRUSH
Few things bother me more than the greasy film that accumulates on my skin when flying. I find myself immediately rushing to the bathroom to cleanse. The Clarisonic Mia FIT, when paired with your favorite cleanser, can help remove impurities, dirt, makeup and residue. My complexion felt more radiant and smooth after one use. Plus, its lightweight design fits perfectly in my travel bag without taking up too much space, leaving room for more of my favorite skin care goodies.
HEAVY-DUTY MOISTURIZER
It’s no secret that dry cabin air can leave your skin feeling parched. A good weapon to have with you is a hydrating facial moisturizer that’ll keep the moisture locked in. Bonus points if it provides broad-spectrum sun protection (you’re closer to the sun while in-flight, after all). Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30 is rich, hydrating, and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. I love that it provides UVA and UVB protection to help protect against those rays coming in through the window. Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Rich Cream is also a good moisturizer to have with you, especially for a long-haul flight; it offers 48-hour hydration!
FULL-COVER CONCEALER
While moisturizer can help you look dewy and refreshed, concealer can help cover up any skin issues you’re trying to hide before reaching your final destination. Vichy Dermafinish Corrective Foundation Stick is great for masking under eye circles, blemishes, age spots, and scars. It’s recommended for all skin types, is easy to use, and offers 12 hours of long-lasting wear.
LIP BALM
I must admit, lip balm has a permanent spot in my bag whether or not I’m in a plane. When it comes to avoiding a dry pout, Kiehl’s Lip Relief is my new go-to. It soothes my dehydrated lips and helps them maintain healthy moisture.
Vacation, anyone?
