The new year is about appreciating our blessings as much as it is about starting fresh. Along with making resolutions that vow to move on from poor habits, one should also take the time to marvel at how far we’ve come in just 12 months. Ahead, we discuss how some of the top skin care trends of 2018 (a few of which we predicted ourselves) bloomed over the course of one year.Trend #1: Glowing Skin 2018 saw the rise of glowing complexions. Aiming for healthy, radiant-looking skin that flawlessly achieves the “no makeup” makeup look took the beauty industry by storm. Ensuring that you were promoting your skin’s natural radiance as opposed to layering on more foundation is a trend that is not only easily relatable, but easily adaptable. Over the past year, multitaskers in the skin care industry have been making waves not only for their versatility, but for how easy they are to incorporate into routines. Take, for example, the new Garnier SkinActive 3-in-1 Face Wash, Scrub and Mask with Charcoal. It boasts three uses—cleanser, face scrub, or mask—in one product. To help support a healthy microbiome barrier, skin care products formulated with prebiotics really gained traction in 2018. To learn more about how to support your skin’s microbiome, click here! Trend #5: Customized Skin Care Not all skin is created equal. Everyone is built differently, and therefore no two skin care routines are the same. To address this, skin care companies have developed customized products dedicated to your skin’s individual needs. Take, for example, La Roche-Posay’s My Skin Track UV. Complete with its own app, this battery-free wearable device can track how much exposure your skin gets to aggressors and harmful UV rays. It then provides you with customized suggestions to establish the proper protective measures your routine should have, even recommending products to help along the way. Plus, it’s small enough and light enough that you won’t even feel it throughout your day.Trend #6: Crystal-Infused Skin CareDiamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but crystals are the skin’s greatest ally. “Crystals are rich in minerals that may provide the skin with calming and brightening effects,” says board-certified dermatologist and Skincare.com consultant, Dr. Joshua Zeichner. This makes them both pretty to look at and valuable to your skin’s health, making them more than just pretty rocks.  Trend #7: Rubber Face Masks 2018 was essentially the year of the face mask. Our initial predictions of the rise of rubber masks grew exponentially into the rise of all types of face masks, from sheet to clay. Face masks are great ways to treat yourself for some at-home relaxation while also targeting specific skin concerns in one fell swoop.
